Positive Consequences
Class DojoI will use Class Dojo to implement a classroom economy. Students will earn reward points for completing their classroom job, demonstrating on task behavior, following the classroom rights and responsibilities, and meeting classroom expectations. The reward points will be used to pay their desk rent, fines, and purchase rewards at the fall, winter, or spring class auctions. Auction items will include lunch with the teacher, opportunity to be an assistant in another class, class pizza party and the ability to own their desk and other desks for the school year. For students that own their own desk, they do not pay rent. If a student buys other desks, then the student collects the rent from that desk. This option also teaches students life lessons about the benefits and responsibilities of renting a space versus owning a space.

Class JobsStudents will apply for class jobs in my classroom. I will post the job descriptions, and students will apply for three jobs and will be selected for one by the teacher. Each job will have a salary that is earned by completing the tasks in the job description. Students will have a job for one month, then apply for a different job. These jobs teach responsibility and consequences for uncompleted work.

Love & Logic
Guidelines for Sharing Control Through Choices
I plan on using the Love & Logic approach to help students learn to make choices and accept logical consequences in my classroom. |
Negative Consequences
I will use negative consequences in my classroom following these guidelines:
- Reframing time-out
- Give student(s) time to self-correct
- Use a non-verbal cue to give opportunity to self-correct
- Ensure the consequence fits offense
- Include some type of action plan
Think sheet I will use a think sheet for students to think through a behavior that was not acceptable for my classroom. I like this strategy because it gives the student time to calm down and analyze his or her actions. I can then have a quiet one-on-one conference with the student at a quiet moment like work time. At this point I will listen to the student's explanation of their actions, then inform the student of the logical consequence that is the result of his or her actions.
I also want to have the parents sign the think sheet because it is a form of communication with the parents about the situation. I will also email or call the parents so they are aware to look for the form in the communications pocket of the STAR binder. In this way I can keep the parent-teacher lines of communication open. |
